Privacy Policy
Kindra helps parents build emotional connection with their children. The reflections you write are personal — often the most personal things you will ever type into an app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you stay in control.
1. Who we are
Kindra ("we", "us", "our") is a daily empathy trainer for parents, accessible at trykindra.app and via our Android app. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
Contact: privacy@trykindra.app
2. What we collect
We collect only what is necessary to operate the service:
- Account data — your email address, display name, and a securely hashed password. We never see or store your password in plain text.
- Child age group— whether your child is a toddler, school-age, or teen, used only to personalize scenarios. We never ask for and never store your child's name, photo, birthdate, or any other identifying information about your child.
- Reflections and journal entries — the responses you write (or speak) during sessions. These are private by default. They become visible to others only if you explicitly choose to share them anonymously, and only after our moderation review.
- Session and progress data — which sessions you complete, your streak, and your empathy-skill scores, used to personalize your next sessions.
- Notification preferences — your push token and preferred reminder time, if you enable daily reminders.
3. Voice recordings are never stored
If you use voice input, your recording is sent for transcription, converted to text, and immediately discarded. The audio is never written to our servers, never stored in any database, and never used by us to train any model. Only the transcript text — which you can edit before submitting — is saved, exactly as if you had typed it.
4. How we use your information
- To deliver and personalize your daily sessions.
- To generate supportive coach responses to your reflections using AI (see Section 5).
- To send you the emails you expect: a welcome note, password resets, and a weekly progress digest.
- To send daily session reminders, if you enable them.
- To keep the community feed safe through human moderation.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not share your reflections with anyone except as described in this policy.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of processors to run Kindra, each receiving only what they need:
- OpenAI — processes your reflection text to generate coach responses, and your voice recordings for transcription (audio is discarded after transcription).
- ElevenLabs— converts coach responses to speech, only if you enable “Hear coach responses” in Settings.
- Resend — delivers our emails.
- Expo — delivers push notifications.
6. Community sharing and moderation
Sharing a reflection with the community is always opt-in, always anonymous, and always reviewed by a human moderator before it appears. The public feed shows only the words you wrote — never your name, email, or any account identifier. You can request removal of a shared reflection at any time via support@trykindra.app.
7. Children's privacy
Kindra is for parents and guardians aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and — by design — the only information we hold that relates to your child is an age-group category you select.
8. Retention and deletion
- You can delete your account any time from Settings in the app. Deletion removes your account, profile, sessions, progress, and reflections.
- Guest sessions that never become accounts are deleted after 30 days.
- Voice audio is discarded immediately after transcription (Section 3).
9. Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Access to the production database is restricted, and Kindra's data lives in its own isolated database.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
